Tattooing and Body Piercing
Hepatitis C may be passed through tattooing by reuse of tattooing needles or dye, inadequate sterilization of needles between customers, or breaks in sterile techniques by the tattoo artist, such as licking the tattooing needle or testing needle sharpness by pricking his/her hand.

Body piercing may also be a source of hepatitis C infection since it involves the use of needles and possible exposure to blood. If needles and other piercing equipment are not adequately sterilized between customers, they can become a source of hepatitis C infection.

Those with tattoos and/or those who have undergone any body piercing should be tested for hepatitis C because of the increased risk of exposure to infected blood.
